Does Good Oral Hygiene Undo The Harm From Smokeless Tobacco?

According to NIDCR, National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, dipping can cause:

- Cancer of the mouth.
- Sugar in smokeless tobacco may cause decay in exposed tooth roots.
- Dip and chew can cause your gums to pull away from the teeth in the place where the tobacco is held.  The gums do not grow back.
- Leathery white patches and red sores are common in dippers and chewers and can turn into cancer.

An herbal product that seems to lessen gum recession and reduce sensitivity with teeth is IPSAB Herbal Gum Treatment and Periactil Precondition Kit, which is sugar and fluoride free  There are no medical studies with these products, but plenty of recommendations.

India is home to only 12% of the worlds smokers, although many studies on gum recession, tobacco and smokeless tobacco have been done by them.  For instance, the Department of Periodontology at Saraswati Dental College and Hospital in India found that the periodontal health of the general population in the region required immediate attention as majority of subjects irrespective of their habit status had onset of clinical attachment loss and gingival recession, more so amongst the smokeless tobacco users than smoking form of tobacco as well as than from non-tobacco users.

Good oral hygiene includes daily brushing and flossing of your teeth.  Lack of either of these causes periodontal disease which includes gum recession.  Gum recession is when the gums fall away from the teeth, states the National Cancer Institute.  They also state that this gum recession is difficult to repair.
