Amazing Information On Cleaning Your Dentures

People always worry about the abrasion that a toothbrush causes on their teeth. It is a well known fact, and it has been confirmed by NCBI, National Center for Biotechnology Information, that increasing levels of tooth wear are significantly associated with age. This abrasion is not only caused by a toothbrush, but like a chef's knife, teeth wear if they are used often for cutting, chewing and grinding.

People have not put the same concern into their dentures. Dentures are constructed of synthetic plastic resins and the teeth attached to the dentures can be made of plastic resins or porcelain, for a more natural appearance. I think because dentures are man-made people are not so concerned about abrasion to their dentures. Studies that have been done among denture brushes show that there was no significant difference among three denture brushes. So, we don't have to be too concened about the dental brushes that we use on our dentures, but we should be concerned with the toothpaste we use on our dentures. According to studies, and documented by NCBI, Colgate produced the greatest abrasion to dentures.

Polident, however, did not prove to do a much different job than water in removing bacteria from dentures., according to the Department of Prosthodontics, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Kagoshima University.  However, not all dentures are made with the same material, so all materials for constructing dentures would have to be evaluated. At the Department of Dentistry, Ponta Grossa Dental School, Ponta Grossa State University, they found that  microwaving dentures was effective for the treatment of denture stomatitis.  However, since dentures are made from different materials, microwave treatment is not recommended for all dentures and should be used with caution, states the Division of Community Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, The University of Western Ontario.

In general it appears that people do not know how to properly clean their dentures. According to sample studies, it was concluded that the most people do not receive proper orientation for the conservation of removable dentures, which may consequently reduce the useful life of dentures.
