Knee pads and elbow pads are needed for a lot of sports nowadays, but most importantly are items to protect them against dental injuries.
The American Dental Association says studies of mouthguard users and nonusers have consistently shown that mouthguards offer significant protection against sports-related injuries to the teeth and soft tissues. Sports with high speed and high impact result more in facial bone fractures, whereas sports with low speed and low impact result more in dental injuries.
The following are fairly common injury protection equipment
- Mouth Guards : The best way to protect your teeth and mouth is by wearing a mouth guard.
- Face cages : These protect against trauma to the face, especially when playing baseball catcher or hockey goalie.
- Helmets : A helmet made for the activity that you are participating in is best for protecting an important part of your body...... your head.
Don't forget to child-proof your house
I'm going to extend child-proofing your house beyond preventing dental injuries, but also preventing unintentional injuries. WebMD has a few important items that you may not have thought of. For instance, make sure window blinds do not have looped cords to avoid strangulation and place furniture away from high windows, so children won't climb on windowsills. Screens aren't strong enough to keep children from falling through windows. Don't let your child chew on ice, popcorn kernels, or other hard foods. Always use car seats for young children and require seat belts for older children. And if your child plays contact sports of any type, have him/her wear a mouth guard.According to the EPA, Environmental Protection Agency, lead exposure can harm young children and babies even before they are born.
