Can Braces Make White Marks on My Teeth?

Orthodontic braces straighten teeth and make them more even and straight, therefore, making them more appealing to look at.

Orthodontic braces can also close up spaces of missing teeth and make spaces, if a tooth is tipped too much.  All of this sounds great, but what about the abnormal white area that occurs on the teeth after the braces are removed.

That white area is called tooth demineralization and that demineralization causes tooth decay.   It is caused from bacteria living on dental plaque.

Demineralization is a problem in orthodontics

Acid etching and composite resin adhesives increase enamel decalcification in vitro, while brackets do not. The prevalence of this phenomenon has been reported to be very high, jeopardizing the success of orthodontic treatment outcome. It becomes mandatory for orthodontist to recognize the high risk patients, evaluate the white spot lesions, reinforce good oral hygiene measures, institute preventive fluoride regimen and manage post treatment white spot lesions to obtain optimum esthetic results according to the Orthodontic CYBERjournal. Fluoride is partially effective in addressing this problem, but additional treatment options are needed.

GC Tooth-Mousse prevents and decrease the white spots

According to the Department of Restorative Dentistry, University of Aberdeen Dental School and Hospital in Aberdeen, Scotland, MI Paste Plus prevented and decreased the number of white spot lesions during orthodontic treatment. The Department of Orthodontics, Peking University School of Stomatology found the same results using GC Tooth Mousse.  Asian countries use GC Tooth Mousse, which is the same as MI Paste.
